Nikita Walia, BLANK Agency
π Thoughts on cultivating practices to stay curious & expansive, Experiment beauty, and cooking with the 5-4-3-2-1 method.
Nikita Walia is the Founder and CEO of BLANK, a creative company that specializes in strategy, design, and ideas. Or, as she refers to it, βa group of friends doing really great work together.β
π― Current focus
I'm working on so many things I'm excited about. From building the future of freelance finance with my friends at WorkMade, to my own DTC jewelry brand, and to just showing up more on TikTok, I'm spending a lot of time this year in thinking and creating in public.
π€ AI & the idea of taste
I just collected a mish-mash of thoughts about this into my Substack newsletter, but the idea of taste, and what it means to have taste is a near-constant thought that I have. Working in the creative industry, we're all feeling a little bit of the squeeze from AI - even if it's not realistic. I really believe that the best of the best will continue to do well, but it does raise the bar on what is taste, what is originality, etc.
πΆ βOne Night//All Nightβ β Tame Impala + JusticeΒ
This song has been on heavy rotation because it feels so nostalgic for my first few years in New York β while feeling entirely new.
π£οΈ Cultivating practices to stay curious & expansive
After completing six months of coaching last year, a great focus for me in life has been living in alignment with my values. Two big ones for me are curiosity and expansion. As such, I've been focused on cultivating practices that help me stay curious and expansive β and finding projects that do so, too.
π§βπ³ Cooking with the 5-4-3-2-1 method
My latest 'thing' that I've been obsessive about is cooking at home. I go through phases of having a love/hate relationship around the mechanical act of feeding yourself daily. But, the last few weeks I've been really into planning my meals, cooking meals I look forward to, and using the time to actually log out and call my family.
Meal prep is hard for me, and I find I often end up buying specialty ingredients I won't use, or way overspending. Recently I found the 5-4-3-2-1 method via a chef on TikTok named Will Coleman and it's helped me make sure I have a solid stash of proteins, vegetables, and fruit. I have a very stocked spice cabinet, so from those selections, I'm able to make a variety of dishes, flavor wise. This week I made dum pukht chicken pulao with chicken thighs and mixed veggies, and I'm writing this after making a spicy turkey meatball (five spice, sriracha) etc that I served with a chili oil green bean. It starts with protein and then I hit my flavor goals.
π§ͺ Experiment BeautyΒ
I'm really paying attention to brands that are investing in world-building. I am biased, because they are clients but I am paying attention to Experiment and what they're doing around making skincare fun, and I recently completed an assignment for Tyler McGillivary to give this young brand some lore :)
